Meet Dr. Sophan Kay

Dr. Sophan R.Kay was born in Cambodia in 1971. He and his family survived the torturous communist regime, Khmer Rouge, during the killing field from 1975 to 1978. In 1978, Dr. Kay and his family escaped from Cambodia to live in the refugee camp in the border of Thailand. Fortunately, in 1981 the United States of America accepted his family as refugee status, and his whole family immigrated to the U.S where they settled in Santa Ana, California.

During Dr. Kay’s early childhood, he did not have any formal education until he arrived in the United States. Hence, he did not know how to read or write, nor did he speak English. With self determination, he was able to excel academically within a few years. In 1989, Dr. Kay graduated high school in the top 10 percentile.

After high school, he attended the University of Arizona where he earned his Bachelor degree in Medical Technologist. Later, Dr. Kay earned his doctorate degree from Marquette University School of Dentistry in 2000. Dr. Kay was commissioned into the United States Air Force as a captain after graduation from dental school. He was stationed at Barksdale AFB where he received extensive training in all aspect of dentistry. Kay Dental was opened in 2005 after separating from the Air Force.

In 2009, Dr. Kay received extensive training from the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain to head and neck pain, TMD/TMJ. In 2010, he received further training from UCLA School of Dentistry in the area of Sleep Medicine to treat sleep apnea and snoring. Furthermore, he had taken numerous courses and seminars in orothodontics.

Because of Dr. Kay’s extensive training in all aspects of dentistry, he is able to provide comprehensive care for all his patients.
